THE CITY OF MISSION VIEJO
|
|
Mission Viejo is steeped in a tradition that dates back to the vanishing days of men on horses driving cattle.
Nearly 25 years ago, the Mission Viejo Co. bought a 10,000-acre section of Rancho Mission Viejo from the O'Neill family, which once owned much of the land from Oceanside to El Toro.
The company would create a master plan for a community, specifying the number of parks, homes, recreational activities and retail spaces.
The rolling hills of the valley, home to a sea of grazing cattle, soon would also become home to seekers of "The California Promise."
The vision for the community began in 1963 with a planners blueprint. The general development plan wound its way through the maze of county permits and by 1966 the first homes were sold, according to the Mission Viejo Co.
Fewer than a handful of changes - among them the additions of Saddleback College and lake Mission Viejo - have been made to that initial plan.
Currently, over 100,000 people call Mission Viejo home.

The public is invited to enjoy the endearing story of “Anne of Green Gables” on November 21 at City Hall as part of the free movie series sponsored by the City’s Community of Character Committee. Spirited orphan Anne Shirley displays “thankfulness” for family and friends amidst the spectacular scenery of Prince Edward Island, Canada.
The City’s Norman P. Murray Community and Senior Center this month is hosting an array of free and low-cost programs and events and opportunities for residents to get involved. The facility is located at 24932 Veterans Way. Volunteers sought for AARP Tax-Aide Volunteers are sought for the City’s AARP Tax-Aide program that offers seniors free.
Fall colors are in the air and so is the anticipation of rainbow trout fast approaching Lake Mission Viejo! The local tackle stores are advertising trout fishing gear, but anglers in the know are already shopping at the LMV Tackle Box for all their trout fishing needs.
The 32nd Annual LMVA Trout Opener is scheduled for Saturday, November 20 at 6 a.m. Anglers will find 10,000 pounds of beautiful trout, hungry for a variety of lures and bait. For the first time in several years, the “opener fish” will travel from Mt. Lassen Fish Hatchery in northern California. The Lassen team will be stocking LMV with the “Sierra Bow” strain of feisty rainbows. Mt. Lassen Trout's Sierra Rainbow is a beautiful, richly colored, full-finned, ruby red meat rainbow trout. These fish are the closest thing you will find to a truly wild rainbow trout. When the trout first arrive, during the week prior to Opening Day, the lake will be closed to fishing until the Saturday morning season opener. The “no fishing” period allows the trout time to acclimate to LMV waters and prepare to do battle with the LMV's skillful anglers.
The rental fleet is being spruced up with new electric motors, batteries, anchors and paint. Anglers should be prepared, morning boat rentals will be busy on opening weekend as well as on most weekends following the bi-weekly stocking of trout. The second stock delivery is scheduled for Tuesday, December 1, prior to our first tournament of the year.

FISHING CLUB
The Lake Mission Viejo Fishing Club is open to all LMVA members, and will celebrate the 33rd year of trout fishing with a number of exciting events. The Club’s first meeting is slated for Wednesday, December 1 at 7 p.m. in the LMVA Administration Building. The evening will feature plans for the upcoming season and registration for the first tournament slated for Saturday, December 4, from 6 –11 a.m.
The competition has three divisions including: Kids (11 and under), Teens (12-17) and Adults (18 and older). Tournament fees are $4 for Kids and $5 for Teens and Adults.
